Christine falls by benjamin black5/9/2023 She had stayed in bed all morning, still tipsy, unable to sleep and crying half the time, a hankie crushed to her mouth to stifle the sobs. At the party the night before one of the medical students had found a flask of raw alcohol and mixed it with orange crush and she had drunk two glasses of it, and the inside of her mouth was still raw and there was something like a drum beating behind her forehead. She was glad it was the evening mailboat she was taking for she did not think she could have faced a morning departure. Browsing my bookshelves recently (physical not virtual) this book caught my eye. Although I’m in the middle of other books right now I like to think about what to read next, often changing my mind before settling down to read the next one. This week I’m featuring Christine Fallsby Benjamin Black. Every Tuesday First Chapter, First Paragraph/Intros is hosted by Vicky of I’d Rather Be at the Beach sharing the first paragraph or two of a book she’s reading or plans to read soon.

But when things in her hometown start becoming volatile, Jude and her mother are sent to live in Cincinnati with relatives.Īt first, everything in America seems too fast and too loud. Highfire by Eoin Colfer5/8/2023 Highfire is infused with witty touches throughout. Throw in an equally fantastical demon named Waxman a local businessman who provides food and drink for those in the swamp and a corrupt constable with an ironically noble name (Regence Hooke) for our heroes to unite against, and you have the makings of a thrilling novel. Of course, as with all such tales, what begins as professional respect turns into admiration and even friendship. In return, Vern agrees not to burn Squib to a crisp. You see, Squib, a Cajun lad, helps procure booze and other fun items for Vern, a bayou-dwelling dragon. And it’s not so much love that binds the two, but a mutually beneficial business arrangement. In this case, though, the animal isn’t something pedestrian like a dog it’s a dragon whose glory days are long past. The story is as old as time: the adventures of a boy and the animal he runs with. The author, primarily known as a children's book writer and creator of the Artemis Fowl series, lends his craft to a more adult effort here. Highfire, the latest effort by Eoin Colfer, is a (literally) high-flying adventure wrapped in a fantasy, with a hint of police noir thrown in for good measure.

Wayward pines the last town5/8/2023 The threat of man-eating monsters from outside the town is similar in both towns, and the storyline of the Sherriff making the tough rules and enforcing them with an iron rod is repeated in Wayward Pines. Why it’s similar to FROM: The dystopian setting in Wayward Pines is similar to that of the mysterious town in FROM, with everyone that finds themselves in the town being turned into a prisoner in both shows. Burke later discovers that the town is not the prison he thought of, and the world he hopes to return to doesn’t exist anymore. A sheriff enforces a set of tough rules, and breaking them is punished by public execution in a ceremony known as The Reckoning. The town is called Wayward Pines, in Idaho, where the members of the town can’t leave because they are trapped inside by an electric fence. What it’s about: A US secret service agent Ethan Burke gets involved in a car accident on his way to investigate the disappearance of two fellow agents and wakes up in a mysterious town where he can’t contact the outside world. Man-eating monsters in FROM are also quite similar to the cannibalistic clans that emerge from among the team members in Yellowjackets. The mysteries and horrors of the jungle in Yellowjackets are very similar to what the people in The Town face. Why it’s similar to FROM: Just like the Mathew family, The Yellowjackets find themselves trapped in a new world where death is almost certain. ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 2 Schedule: Episode 6 Release Date & Time

Confess fletch novel5/8/2023 That 33-year gap wasn't for lack of interest. It's the first big screen version of the character we've seen since 1989's Fletch Lives. "Critical" Analysis: Confess, Fletch comes to us courtesy of Greg Mottola (director of Superbad and Adventureland) and Zev Borow ( Outer Range), who co-adapted Gregory McDonald's novel. Combine that with the kidnapping of his girlfriend Angela's (Lorenza Isso) father and the disappearance of her family's art collection - which Angela's stepmother "The Countess" (Marcia Gay Harden) may be involved with - well, that's quite a clam chowder our Fletch has gotten himself into. Fletcher (Jon Hamm), a "former investigative reporter of some repute" (as he frequently describes himself), finds himself the prime suspect in the murder of a woman whose body he discovers in his Boston Airbnb. Not So Brief Plot Synopsis: Back in the U.S. And this guy."īetter Tagline: "Maybe you'd be less conspicuous if you didn't wear a Lakers hat in Boston."

You are also welcome to ask me any questions you may have about the place I have been, and I will try to answer them in a timely manner. I’ll show you pictures from places I have been (this one is from Dubrovnik, better known to fans of The Song of Ice and Fire as King’s Landing), and tell you the exciting stories that happen to me along the way. I will also tell you about my world-wide travels as this is something I do on a regular basis. Most people regret that decision, but who knows, maybe you’ll be in the minority. Of course, I will keep you up to date on the latest writings coming out of my head, and I will also let you know when and where I will be in the world, so someday you might be able to meet me in person. I am hoping to create an interactive site that everybody can enjoy. As long as everybody follows those two simple rules, I won’t have to kick anybody off. Anybody is welcome as long as you keep your posts appropriate, and respect the other followers to this site. Some might look at that as a bad thing, and if so, please explain to me how.įor whoever finds my site, I want to welcome you, and also allow you the opportunity to follow me on a regular basis. In which case, surprise, I write books as well as teach. Either that or you’re a potential employer who is investigating me to see if I would be a good fit for your organization. I guess you are here because you have discovered one of my books and enjoyed it enough to find out more about the author, me. |
